3482X vs 3501 vs 3166 is a comparison of three different surface-control routes, not three equal-dose anti-sticking additives. CHLUMIFE® 3482X is an 80% solids, water-only pre-emulsion with a specific dilution procedure. CHLUMIAG® 3501 is a multi-system release candidate with no public dose. CHLUMIFE® 3166 is a 100% active dry-feel route whose own page warns of pinholes, whitening and foam stabilization.

Use 3482X for a defined waterborne slip target
3482X is the most specifically supported waterborne route. Its page describes lower coefficient of friction, anti-sticking, slip feel and abrasion resistance. It contains a thickener for dilution stability, yet still requires staged dilution with small amounts of water before addition. Record water quality, dilution steps, agitation, final concentration and age.
Do not use alcohol in its dilution or formulation experiment. The sample and diluted material must be protetto dal gelo; the public shelf life is six months and the diluted solution should not be stored for long periods. Screen inside 0.05–1.0% as supplied and report the 80±2% solids separately rather than calling it 100% active.
Keep 3501 behind a supplier evidence gate
3501 can be added in waterborne, solvent and UV systems and its application list includes release coatings and anti-sticking. However, no public dosage or test protocol is supplied. Request a current TDS, starting range, compatible resin systems and a defined pressure/temperature/time block method before testing.
This is not an equal-dose competitor to 3482X or 3166. Without a supported dose, matching one percent as supplied would be arbitrary. Also test COF, rub, intercoat adhesion and overprint because a release effect can create downstream losses.
Use 3166 only when dry feel is the measured target
3166 is supported for dry feel, smoothness, scratch resistance and anti-blocking, with a 0.05–1.0% total-formulation range. It is also 100% active, so equal as-supplied doses would deliver a different material load from 3482X.
Its risk statement is unusually important: pinholes, whitening and foam stabilization may occur. Include foam, pinhole, clarity/color and film-thickness observations in every trial. Do not add a new defoamer simultaneously; otherwise, the effect of 3166 cannot be isolated.
Define the surface failure quantitatively
“Better hand feel” is too subjective for purchase approval. Agree the target: static/dynamic COF, block release force or rating, scratch/mar result, abrasion loss, gloss, tactile panel ranking or line-handling defect rate. Record cure age, temperature, humidity and evaluator method. Separate wet-film leveling from dry-film slip and release.

Measure abrasion with fixed conditions
For rigid coated panels, ASTM D4060 provides a Taber Abraser comparison. Fix wheel, load, cycles, resurfacing and film thickness. Report mass or thickness loss and visible damage. Differences in fillers, film flexibility and debris can affect the result, so do not treat one number as universal wear life.
Use pencil hardness only as a separate cure indicator
ASTM D3363 provides a rapid pencil-hardness method for organic films. Keep pencil manufacturer/lot, panel and operator consistent. Hardness is not the same as scratch resistance, abrasion or pleasant feel; report it as a separate response, especially when cure changes could masquerade as an additive benefit.
For printed materials, keep rub separate
ASTM D5264 offers a comparative rub practice for printed materials. Use it for ink or overprint-varnish work, then add the real contact: stack, reel, conveyor, assembly or consumer handling. A rigid-panel abrasion result cannot replace printed rub.
Check storage and production robustness
Age the finished formulation and diluted 3482X separately where allowed. Recheck viscosity, separation, foam, pinholes, COF and application. Simulate production shear and temperature. For 3501, light and heat protection are listed on the public page; preserve those conditions. Approve only after the plant can reproduce incorporation and performance.
Selection rules
- Choose 3482X for waterborne COF/slip work with staged water dilution and no alcohol.
- Choose 3166 for a defined dry-feel experiment only with pinhole, whitening and foam controls.
- Do not test 3501 until a supported dose and quantified release method are supplied.
- Do not compare 80±2% solids 3482X and 100% active 3166 as if equal as-supplied percentages were equal chemistry.
