Cyclopentanone Usage

1. Using cyclopentanone and n-valeraldehyde as raw materials, first undergo aldol condensation and then dehydration to produce pentylcyclopentanone, followed by selective catalytic hydrogenation to produce pentylcyclopentanone, which is strong It has a floral and fruity scent, and has a jasmine scent. It can be used in daily chemical fragrance formulations. The dosage can be less than 20%. IFRA has no restrictions.

2. Using n-hexanal and cyclopentanone as raw materials, first undergo condensation and then selectively hydrogenate to obtain hexylcyclopentanone. Hexylcyclopentanone has a strong jasmine fragrance and fruity fragrance, which can be used in perfume fragrances. And in various other daily chemical flavor formulas, the dosage is within 5%. IFRA has no restrictions.

3. The 1-pentene or 1-heptene obtained by pyrolysis of paraffin or the dehydration of the corresponding alcohol is used as the raw material, and in the presence of di-tert-butyl peroxide as the initiator, it undergoes radical addition reaction with cyclopentanone to form 2 -Pentylcyclopentanone (or 2-heptylcyclopentanone), which becomes δ-decanolactone (or δ-laurolactone) after ring expansion by oxidation.

4. The synthetic route with cyclopentanone as the starting material has the most industrial production value. Cyclopentanone first undergoes aldol condensation with n-valeraldehyde, the condensation product becomes 2-pentylcyclopentanone after dehydration and selective hydrogenation, and finally becomes δ-decanolactone after oxidative ring expansion.

5. Delta-decanolactone is mainly used in edible flavor formulations. It is considered to have the characteristic flavor of natural cream. Prior to this, perfumers have been limited to using monomeric fragrances such as diacetyl and vanillin as the main raw material for formulating cream flavors for a long time. However, people generally feel that the prepared cream flavor is far inferior to natural products in terms of taste or flavor. Only when δ-decanolactone is used, can it have a vivid cream flavor, especially when δ-decanolactone and δ-laurolactone are used together as the main fragrance raw materials, the flavor and effect of the formulated cream flavor will be better .

6. Take cyclopentanone and valeraldehyde as raw materials, condense to produce 2-(1-hydroxy)pentylcyclopentanone, react with dimethyl malonate, and then hydrolyze, decarboxylate and esterify at 160~180℃ , Can be obtained dihydrojasmonate methyl ester. Methyl dihydrojasmonate is a food spice that is temporarily allowed to be used in my country’s GB2760-1996. Its aroma is better than that of natural methyl jasmonate and its properties are relatively stable.
