What is benzyl alcohol?
Benzyl alcohol is an organic compound with the molecular formula C7H8O. It is one of the simplest aromatic alcohols and can be regarded as phenyl substituted methanol. In nature, most essential oils are present in the form of esters, such as jasmine oil, hyacinth oil and Peru balsam all contain this ingredient.
Benzyl alcohol Usage
1. Benzyl alcohol can be used as a preservative for ointments.
2. Benzyl alcohol can be used as a desiccant for fibers, nylon filaments and plastic films, and a stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride.
3. Benzyl alcohol can be used as a photographic developer, as a solvent for cellulose acetate, ink, paint, paint, epoxy paint, dyes, casein, shellac and gelatin, etc., to prepare benzyl ester or ether intermediates.
4. Because it has almost the same refractive index as quartz and wool fibers, it is used as a distinguishing agent for quartz and wool fibers.
5. Benzyl alcohol is used as a diluent in the perfume industry. It can be used as a blending agent with benzyl acetate in jasmine, gardenia, lilac, ylang-ylang, tuberose, hyacinth, acacia and other floral fragrances. It acts as an additive in soap, perfume, cosmetics and other products. It is also often used as a solvent to dissolve artificial musks and other spices. It is also often used as a edible flavor for cherry, grape, honey, sweet orange, raspberry, walnut, vanilla bean and other edible flavors.
