5005 vs 5005-60 vs 3388 begins with the coating system. CHLUMIAG® 5005 is for oil/solvent systems and can be used in certain two-component polyester, polyurethane, and acrylate systems. CHLUMIAG® 5005-60 is a water-based emulsion. CHLUMIFE® 3388 is a non-reactive solvent/UV topcoat feel agent with pinhole and recoat warnings. They are not interchangeable PU leather additives.
Define the finish KPI—dry/silky feel, measured stain resistance, rub/abrasion, coefficient of friction, release, blocking, flex, or downstream recoat—before selecting a route. A pleasant fresh hand does not prove durable feel, stain release, or adhesion.
5005 vs 5005-60 vs 3388 system map
| Finish system/target | First route | Main approval risk |
|---|---|---|
| Solvent/oil PU or related 2K finish needs durable feel or a defined stain target | 5005 | Reactive balance, pot life, cure, flex, adhesion, dosage by endpoint |
| Waterborne finish needs an emulsion hand-feel route | 5005-60 | Water-only system, 1–3%, storage, foam, film continuity, durability |
| Solvent/UV final topcoat needs non-reactive feel tuning | 3388 | Pinhole, recoat, durability, end-addition and dilution |
| Release or stain performance is requested without a method | Define contaminant/contact/cleaning/force first | No product conclusion until the endpoint is measurable |
| 제품 | Published fit | Supplier guidance | Critical boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 클루미아그® 5005 | Oil/solvent; 100% active; hydroxyl value <50 mgKOH/g | Permanent feel 0.2–1%; stain target 2–6%; resin modification 1–6%; polymerization or direct 2K addition | Calculate/validate NCO/OH balance, pot life, cure, and actual stain test |
| 클루미아그® 5005-60 | Water-based only; modified polysiloxane emulsion | 1–3% total formulation; any stage/post-addition | Not solvent or UV; six-month shelf life; protect from heat/light |
| 클루미페® 3388 | Solvent/UV only; non-reactive topcoat feel agent | 0.01–1% coatings; end-add after suitable solvent dilution; public page also gives PU-release-solvent dilution instruction | Pinhole risk; recoat and feel-retention durability require testing; no automatic release claim |
Choose 5005 only inside the solvent/2K boundary
5005 is the route with published endpoint-specific ranges: 0.2–1% for permanent hand feel and 2–6% for stain resistance. It can be used as an organosilicon modifier during polymerization or added directly to specified two-component systems. The reported hydroxyl value means the full reactive balance deserves calculation and laboratory confirmation.
Run pot-life viscosity, gel time, cure, flex, adhesion, abrasion, gloss, color, blocking, and stain tests together. Do not treat the higher stain-resistance range as a default feel dosage.
Choose 5005-60 for a waterborne hand-feel route
5005-60 is the only waterborne product in this comparison. Its public page gives 1–3% and any-stage/post-addition flexibility. It is a polysiloxane emulsion with a six-month shelf life and heat/light storage restrictions.
Measure emulsion compatibility, foam, craters/pinholes, film continuity, gloss/haze, hand, flex, adhesion, water resistance, blocking, and feel retention after aging. Water compatibility does not prove fit with every PUD, acrylic, crosslinker, pigment, or defoamer.
Choose 3388 only for a solvent/UV final topcoat
3388 is explicitly non-reactive and intended for topcoat use. It is added near the end after suitable solvent dilution. The page warns that it may cause pinholes, requires recoat testing, and requires proof that feel retention is durable.
The instruction to dilute 40–60 times with a polyurethane release solvent before use is a preparation statement, not evidence that 3388 guarantees release performance. Define and measure release force or demolding conditions before making that claim.
Separate hand feel from stain and release
Use trained-panel sensory scoring with reference samples for dry, silky, waxy, drag, and smoothness. Pair that with instrumental friction where applicable. For stain, define the contaminant, amount, contact time, temperature, cleaning method, number of cycles, and rating for color/gloss/softening.
For release, define mold/release substrate, contact area, pressure, temperature, dwell, peel geometry/speed, cycles, and residue. A subjective “easy release” note is not transferable.
Build a system-gated PU leather trial
- Gate by carrier. Solvent/oil: 5005 or 3388; water: 5005-60.
- Gate by stage. Reactive/resin design: 5005; final non-reactive topcoat feel: 3388.
- Fix the base. Hold resin, crosslinker, pigments, solvent/water, film build, substrate, and cure.
- Follow preparation. Record dilution, order, shear, temperature, and addition stage.
- Age the finish. Repeat feel, flex, rub, stain, adhesion, and blocking after conditioning and service simulation.
Use standards as controlled guardrails
ASTM D4060 evaluates abrasion resistance of organic coatings on rigid panels and explains important test variables; use a leather/flexible-substrate method when required by the customer. ASTM D1308 evaluates the effect of household chemicals on coating appearance and integrity. ASTM D3359 is a tape-adhesion method developed for metallic substrates, so select a substrate-appropriate PU leather method.
Report conditioning, film build, cure, substrate construction, flex cycles, rub/abrasion, gloss/color change, stain agent/contact/cleaning, blocking, COF/feel, adhesion, and failure location. Do not compare results produced with different cure ages.
Common comparison errors
Using 5005 in waterborne finish
The public page marks water-based systems unavailable. Use the waterborne 5005-60 route instead.
Calling 3388 reactive or automatically releasable
The page calls 3388 non-reactive and only provides a release-solvent dilution instruction. Recoat, pinhole, durability, and actual release performance need separate tests.
Using one dosage for all 5005 endpoints
The published feel, stain, and resin-modification ranges differ. Match dosage to the defined target and protect cure and adhesion.
