Waterborne industrial coating additives should solve a reproduced defect without weakening adhesion, corrosion resistance, impact or recoat. Separate substrate wetting, surface leveling and process air first. Then select one documented route and keep resin, pigment volume, pH, viscosity, film build and cure constant.

Define substrate and service before additives
Record metal, plastic, wood or mineral substrate; cleaning and profile; primer or direct-to-substrate design; exposure; and recoat schedule. Oil, salts, silicone contamination, weak pretreatment or flash rust can look like a wetting problem. An additive does not supply corrosion protection, moisture tolerance or chemical cure.

Use 3071 for measured entry failure
Start low within 0.1–1.0% and keep application conditions fixed. Measure retraction, crater count, edge coverage and substrate wetting. Because the page warns that 3071 may stabilize foam in waterborne systems, also record wet density, foam decay and cured pinholes. Better spread is not proof of better adhesion.
Use 3345 for controlled flow work
3345 has a documented 0.1–1.0% total range and 100% active content. Compare leveling, orange peel, gloss and sag at equal viscosity and film build. Reject a smoother panel if it increases craters, reduces intercoat adhesion or narrows the recoat window. Record any predilution and co-solvent because they are process variables.
Use 3062 for industrial-coating foam
3062 provides a specific industrial-coating range of 0.1–0.5% total. Identify whether air enters during dispersion, letdown, pumping or spraying. Compare wet density, foam height and decay, microbubbles and cured pinholes. If solvent dilution is considered, the page requires stability and defoaming-performance checks first.
Keep 094 conditional
094’s page gives a low 50–500 ppm range but also requires staged dilution: first below 60%, then 10–40 times with water, with the working solution prepared and used immediately. Its listed applications are not coating-specific. Keep dose bases and interactions clear
3071 lacks a public active-content value, while 3345 and 3062 state 100% active. Compare the products as supplied first and do not convert 3071 to an active basis without current supplier data. Existing surfactants, dispersants, rheology modifiers and defoamers can interact, so document every component and avoid stacking candidates before their individual effects are known.
Prepare uniform films
ASTM D823 describes practices for preparing coatings of uniform thickness on panels. Fix substrate, applicator or spray conditions, wet and dry film build, temperature, humidity and airflow. Repeat production-relevant spray or roll application after drawdown screening.
Check adhesion and impact
ASTM D3359 provides tape-test methods for adhesion. Document failure location and method limits. ASTM D2794 covers resistance to rapid deformation by impact. Use the required substrate, indenter and film condition and inspect cracking or delamination after a fixed recovery time.
Validate corrosion as a coating-system property
