2K PU topcoat additives must improve the target surface property without disturbing NCO/OH balance, pot life, cure, adhesion, or repairability. CHLUMIAG® 3467 is the compatibility/flow route, CHLUMIFE® 3307X is the solvent/UV scratch-oriented leveling route that prioritizes recoatability, and CHLUMIFE® 1206 is the solvent/UV abrasion/slip route. The three products are not direct substitutes.
CHLUMIFE® 3370 is a waxy feel agent, not a documented leveling route. CHLUMIFE® 3166 carries pinhole, whitening, and foam-stabilization warnings. Both are removed from the first shortlist so the article can focus on supported flow, scratch/recoat, and abrasion/slip decisions.

Control the two-component reaction first
Record Part A resin/hydroxyl value, solvents, pigments, additives and water; Part B isocyanate type/NCO content; mix ratio, induction, pot life, temperature, humidity, film build, flash and cure. Calculate reactive balance with current product data and apply at defined pot ages.
Do not post-add surface additive to an aging mixed pot and compare it with fresh control. Viscosity, transfer and cure are already changing with time.
Use 3467 for compatibility and flow evidence
3467 is the route when the controlled 2K film wets but still shows compatibility or flow defects. The public page reports a hydroxyl value and polyurethane incorporation options; this is not proof that every formula can ignore the additive in NCO/OH calculations.
Screen low in Part A, confirm current TDS, and measure pot life, cure, hardness, gloss, haze, leveling, sag, craters, adhesion, and chemical resistance. The page says to avoid mixing with other additives, so test alone first.
Use 3307X for scratch-oriented leveling with recoat priority
3307X is limited to solvent and UV systems and provides a specific working-solution instruction. Prepare the 12.5% dilution exactly and calculate neat-active contribution. Its recoat positioning makes it a candidate—not a guarantee.
Test scratch/mar, leveling, gloss, haze, cure, intercoat/repair adhesion, overbake/underbake window, and storage. Record whether failure is topcoat-to-substrate, between coats, or within the film.
Use 1206 for abrasion/slip after downstream limits are defined
1206 is a solvent/UV end-addition route. Define abrasion method, dry/wet friction or handling target, service safety, print/recoat/adhesive needs, and appearance before screening. Lower friction alone does not prove better scratch or abrasion resistance.
Protect clarity and compatibility because the page notes clouding with dimethyl silicone oil and advises against mixing with other additives. Test low levels first.
Why 3370 and 3166 are excluded from the first screen
3370 is publicly described as a waxy, solvent/UV feel agent with a melting point of at least 50°C; it does not substantiate the earlier leveling claim. 3166 warns of pinholes, whitening and foam stabilization. Feel optimization can follow only after flow, cure, defects, adhesion, scratch, abrasion and recoat are secure.
Build a controlled 2K topcoat trial
- Fix substrate/primer. Hold preparation, cure, sanding, cleaning, and recoat age.
- Fix Parts A/B. Hold lots, water, mix ratio, induction, temperature, and pot-age points.
- Fix application. Hold viscosity, atomization/drawdown, film build, flash, airflow, and cure.
- Change one route. Run blank plus a short supplier-supported ladder.
- Age and repair. Repeat appearance, cure, scratch/abrasion, chemicals and recoat after conditioning.
Measure cure and durability separately
ASTM D5402 assesses solvent resistance of chemically curing coatings and warns that solvent resistance alone does not prove full cure. ASTM D4060 evaluates abrasion resistance while identifying wheel/debris/friction variables. ASTM D3359 rates tape adhesion on suitable metallic substrates and notes multicoat interpretation limits.
Also report pot-life viscosity, gel time, dry/hardness development, gloss, haze, DOI/leveling, sag, craters/pinholes, scratch/mar, COF where relevant, film thickness, recoat/repair adhesion, water/chemical resistance, and storage.

Ignoring working-solution concentration
3307X must be diluted to 12.5% before use. Record both working-solution and neat-product contribution.
Approving surface appearance without cure
A smooth topcoat that loses pot life, hardness, chemical resistance or repair adhesion is a failed formulation.
