Description
Polyethylene 2,5-furandicarboxylate / PEF CAS 28728-19-0
Polyethylene glycol 2,5- furandicarboxylate (PEF) is a 100 per cent recyclable, bio-based polymer produced using renewable raw materials derived from plant sources.PEF has been described as a next-generation polyester with great potential to replace polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a durable polymer derived from traditional synthetic sources. PEF offers a number of advantages over PET, not only does it reduce the overall carbon footprint of the product, but it also improves the sustainability of the packaging, and with a higher gas barrier to oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour compared to PET, it can be seen as an interesting alternative to PET for packaging applications such as bottles, films and food trays.
