Sodium aluminate Application scenarios
1. Water Treatment Industry (Core Application Area):
Used as a high-efficiency water treatment agent, primarily as a flocculant. It hydrolyzes to generate aluminum hydroxide colloid, which adsorbs suspended impurities, heavy metal ions (such as lead, mercury, and chromium), and color substances in water, used for drinking water purification and industrial wastewater treatment (electroplating wastewater, dyeing and printing wastewater, papermaking wastewater).
2. Building Materials Industry:
Preparation of Accelerators: Compounded with gypsum, silicates, etc., to produce concrete accelerators, accelerating the setting and hardening speed of concrete and shortening curing time, suitable for emergency construction scenarios such as tunnels, mines, and disaster relief projects;
Production of Refractory Materials: Used as a binder in the preparation of shaped refractory bricks and unshaped refractory castables, improving the high-temperature resistance, strength, and corrosion resistance of refractory materials, applied to the linings of high-temperature equipment such as metallurgical furnaces, glass kilns, and cement rotary kilns;
Assisting Cement Hydration: Small amounts can promote the hydration reaction of cement clinker, improve the early strength of cement, and regulate cement setting time.
3. Metallurgical Industry
Bauxite Leaching: A core raw material/auxiliary agent in the Bayer process for alumina production. Under high temperature and pressure, sodium aluminate solution dissolves alumina in bauxite, separating aluminum from impurities (such as silicon and iron). Subsequent decomposition and roasting yield industrial alumina, which is then used in electrolytic aluminum production.
Metal Surface Treatment: Used as an auxiliary agent for phosphating and passivation of steel parts, improving coating adhesion and corrosion resistance; it can also be used for surface oxidation treatment of aluminum products, adjusting the thickness and density of the oxide film.
4. Paper Industry
Used as a sizing precipitant: Used in conjunction with rosin and other sizing agents to ensure uniform precipitation of the sizing agent on the paper fiber surface, improving the paper’s water resistance, smoothness, and strength, and reducing water seepage;
Adjusting pulp pH: Utilizing its strong alkalinity to neutralize acidic substances in the pulp, while simultaneously improving pulp beating performance and enhancing paper quality;
Textile Printing and Dyeing Industry
Used as a mordant: In the dyeing of cotton, linen, and wool textiles, it helps dyes adhere better to the fibers, improving color fastness (wash fastness, rubbing fastness), especially suitable for dyeing processes with acid dyes and reactive dyes;
Used as a fabric finishing agent: Improves the hand feel and crispness of fabrics, while also enhancing wrinkle resistance and water resistance;
Dyeing and printing wastewater treatment: Neutralizes acidic dyeing and printing wastewater, adsorbs dye pigments and suspended solids, achieving discharge standards or allowing for reuse.
5. Chemical Raw Material Synthesis
Preparation of Aluminum Hydroxide: Acidification of sodium aluminate solution (addition of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, or carbon dioxide) can produce high-purity aluminum hydroxide, which is used in the production of flame retardants, pharmaceutical-grade aluminum hydroxide (raw material for antacids), toothpaste abrasives, etc.
