Primarily used in the synthesis of tranexamic acid (a hemostatic drug). It can also be used to manufacture other pharmaceutical intermediates such as p-toluoyl chloride and p-tolunitrile.

Used in the production of pesticides such as the fungicide phosphoramidate. Some sources also mention its use in the manufacture of insecticides.

3. Photosensitive Materials
Used as an intermediate in the manufacture of photosensitive materials such as photographic film.
