Polyethyleenglycol 2,5-furandicarboxylaat (PEF) is een 100% recyclebaar polymeer op biologische basis dat wordt gemaakt van hernieuwbare grondstoffen die afkomstig zijn van planten. PEF wordt beschreven als een polyester van de volgende generatie met een groot potentieel om polyethyleentereftalaat (PET), een duurzaam polymeer dat afkomstig is van traditionele synthetische bronnen, te vervangen. PEF biedt een aantal voordelen ten opzichte van PET, niet alleen vermindert het de totale koolstofvoetafdruk van het product, maar het verbetert ook de duurzaamheid van de verpakking, en met een hogere gasbarri\u00e8re voor zuurstof, kooldioxide en waterdamp in vergelijking met PET kan het worden gezien als een interessant alternatief voor PET voor verpakkingstoepassingen zoals flessen, folies en voedseltrays.<\/p>\n
