1. Octadecyltrimethylammoniumchloride heeft een goede chemische stabiliteit en wordt veel gebruikt als haarconditioner, wasverzachter, antistatische vezelagent, siliconenolie-emulgator, asfaltemulgator, organische bentonietmodificator, ontsmettingsmiddel en bactericide, eiwitflocculant in de biofarmaceutische industrie en flocculant in waterbehandeling.
2. Het wordt gebruikt als antistatische agent voor textielvezel, haarconditioner, emulgator voor asfalt, rubber en siliconenolie.
