Record metal and pretreatment, internal or external location, underlying primer\/ink, clearcoat resin\/crosslinker, film weight, line speed, oven profile, peak metal temperature, forming, fill product, retort or pasteurization and storage. Use D9904BR for demonstrated air<\/h2>\n

D9904BR is intended for water-based systems and must be premixed into co-solvent, added to the grind and dispersed under high-speed stirring. Post-addition is not recommended. Track wet density, foam decay, microbubbles and pinholes through circulation, coating and the full bake.<\/p>\n

Include its dipropylene glycol methyl ether carrier in VOC, flash, extractables and compliance review. Reject any dose that reduces bubbles while increasing craters, haze, gloss variation, poor adhesion or pack-test failure.<\/p>\n

Gate 3467 by cure chemistry<\/h2>\n

3467 can be screened as a compatibility\/leveling modifier within its published waterborne range. The reported OH \u226485 mg KOH\/g is an upper limit rather than an exact batch value. Do not calculate a polyurethane reaction without batch OH, resin OH, crosslinker equivalent, solids and target NCO\/OH.<\/p>\n

For other bake systems, obtain the relevant reaction and cure evidence. Without it, treat 3467 as a non-stoichiometric surface modifier and independently verify cure, adhesion, clarity, chemical resistance and fabrication.<\/p>\n

Keep 3166 outside the first shortlist<\/h2>\n

3166\u2019s page promises dry feel, smoothness, scratch resistance and anti-blocking, but it also warns of pinholes, whitening and foam stabilization. Those risks directly oppose the primary needs of a transparent waterborne clearcoat. Keep 3166 outside the first shortlist unless a measured surface need remains after air, cure and compatibility are controlled.<\/p>\n

If screened, use low\/mid\/high points within 0.05\u20131.0% and measure haze, color, gloss, wet density, pinholes and adhesion. A hand-feel benefit cannot override visible or pack-performance failure.<\/p>\n

Measure clarity and adhesion<\/h2>\n

ASTM D523<\/a> measures specular gloss; use the same geometry, film weight and background. Measure haze and color with the customer\u2019s agreed methods. ASTM D3359<\/a> provides tape-adhesion screening on metal with limited resolution; identify the failure plane in the full stack.<\/p>\n

Test after fabrication<\/h2>\n

Bend, draw, bead, flange or seam representative panels before rating cracking, whitening and adhesion. Inspect clearcoat over ink edges and high-strain zones. Flat-panel results do not qualify a fabricated package.<\/p>\n

Require pack and compliance evidence<\/h2>\n

Run the agreed retort, pasteurization, fill-product, extraction, migration, flavor\/odor and storage studies through qualified procedures. Obtain current documentation for the exact additive grade and destination market. A product application list does not establish food-contact or package compliance.<\/p>\n

Control film weight and cure<\/h2>\n

Measure the clearcoat film or coating weight across the web and verify cure with the method appropriate to the resin and crosslinker. Record line speed, oven zones, peak metal temperature and dwell for every trial. Under-cure can create block, blush or chemical weakness; excessive cure can reduce fabrication flexibility. Neither should be misclassified as an additive result.<\/p>\n

Use identical underlying ink lots and allow the agreed intercoat interval. Some apparent haze or adhesion loss originates in the ink\/clearcoat interface rather than the clearcoat alone. Identify the failure plane after every test.<\/p>\n

Repeat after realistic aging<\/h2>\n

Condition specimens before appearance and adhesion measurements, then repeat after the specified thermal, humidity and pack exposures. Include line start, center and end, and inspect coil or sheet contact faces for transfer. Reproduce the chosen formulation from a fresh batch before a commercial change.<\/p>\n
