Compare a known-good part with the failing lot. A wetting additive cannot remove silicone contamination, restore decayed treatment or make an incompatible resin adhere.<\/p>\n<p>Hold spray viscosity, pH, solids, temperature, atomization, gun distance, wet-film build, flash humidity and oven schedule. Basecoat orientation, color travel and mottling can change with evaporation and spray pattern even when surface chemistry is unchanged.<\/p>\n<h2>Use WD-D545 for confirmed substrate entry<\/h2>\n<p>WD-D545 specifically lists waterborne plastic paint and publishes a 0.1\u20130.5% total-formula range. Its page reports strong dynamic\/static surface-tension performance but zero defoaming and zero slip ratings. That makes it a focused wetting screen rather than a multifunction claim.<\/p>\n<p>Start low and measure coverage, edge pullback, craters, leveling, metallic orientation where relevant, color, gloss\/haze, adhesion and clearcoat recoat. If wetting improves but aged adhesion fails, return to pretreatment, binder, flash and cure.<\/p>\n<h2>Use DF-D9904BR for retained air<\/h2>\n<p>DF-D9904BR is 30% active in DPM and is designed for water-based systems. Its page says to combine it with co-solvent and add it to the abrasive\/grind under high shear; late addition is not recommended. Prepare it correctly before deciding that it is ineffective.<\/p>\n<p>Track foam height and decay, batch density, spray microfoam, cured pinholes, color, gloss and adhesion. Excess or incompatible defoamer can produce craters, haze or intercoat weakness, so choose the lowest passing level.<\/p>\n<h2>Use 3467 only after binder and recoat review<\/h2>\n<p>3467 supports waterborne use and prioritizes compatibility, but its public range of 0.5\u20135% is broad. It is also described as hydroxyl-functional and reactive with isocyanate. If the basecoat or clearcoat system includes NCO chemistry, verify whether the additive enters the reaction balance and whether its hydroxyl value is represented correctly.<\/p>\n<p>Screen a compact internally justified ladder. Test it alone before combinations because the page says to avoid mixing with other additives. Approve only if color, flash, adhesion, clearcoat appearance and storage all remain acceptable.<\/p>\n<h2>Run a basecoat-to-clearcoat trial<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Lock the molded plastic lot, cleaning and pretreatment.<\/li>\n<li>Hold addition order, shear, pH, solids, viscosity and hold time.<\/li>\n<li>Spray the production geometry at low, target and high film build.<\/li>\n<li>Flash under low, nominal and high humidity\/temperature limits.<\/li>\n<li>Clearcoat at minimum, target and extended recoat intervals.<\/li>\n<li>Age panels before adhesion, water\/chemical and appearance decisions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Measure the complete layered system<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/store.astm.org\/standards\/d823\">ASTM D823<\/a> describes practices for producing uniform coating films on test panels. <a href=\"https:\/\/store.astm.org\/standards\/d1308\">ASTM D1308<\/a> covers effects of household chemicals on clear and pigmented organic finishes; choose exposures that match the customer specification.<\/p>\n<p>Record wetting, pinholes, mottling, color and effect orientation, basecoat cohesion, clearcoat appearance, intercoat adhesion, water\/chemical resistance, flexibility and blocking. A smooth basecoat that disrupts color or clearcoat adhesion is not a passing result.<\/p>\n<p>Age the liquid basecoat at the customer\u2019s low, room and elevated storage conditions, then return it to the defined test temperature before measuring pH, viscosity, foam, color and spray behavior.
