Dibutyl phthalate Application scenarios
1. Plastics and Rubber Industry
Plasticizers for materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), vinyl acetate, nitrocellulose, and synthetic rubbers (e.g., neoprene, nitrile rubber).
They impart excellent flexibility and low-temperature toughness to products, but due to their high volatility and water solubility, the durability of the products is relatively poor.
2. Consumer Goods and Materials
Used in manufacturing soft plastic products like artificial leather, coated fabrics (raincoats, shower curtains), vinyl flooring, automotive interiors, and food packaging films.
Softens and adds elasticity to rigid plastics.
3. Coatings and Adhesives
Serves as a plasticizer or solvent for nitrocellulose lacquers, paints, printing inks, and adhesives.
Improves coating properties and enhances adhesion.
4. Household & Personal Care
Historically used as a solvent and fixative in nail polish and perfumes, and as an ingredient in insect repellents.
Note: Due to safety concerns, its use in cosmetics (including nail polish) is now banned in regions like the EU.
5. Other Industrial Applications
Used as a textile lubricant, plasticizer for laminated safety glass, explosives, and solid rocket propellants.
Leverages its solvent and plasticizing functions.
6. Laboratory and Research
Employed as a gas chromatography stationary phase, chemical analysis reagent, α-glucosidase inhibitor for research, and in constructing animal disease models (e.g., rat hypospadias model).
Utilizes its specific chemical and biological activities.
